TONJA BLONQUIST HANSON

for

SUMMIT COUNTY COUNCIL

Five generations

For five generations my family has called Summit County, Utah home. I was born and raised in Coalville where my family has worked and owned a 4,700-acre cattle ranch in the south fork of the Chalk Creek.  In 2007 the ranch was placed in a conservation easement where it will remain a working ranch and help protect watershed, wildlife habitat and our agricultural way of life.

There is nowhere else that I would rather live, and I am extremely proud to call Summit County my home.  Through my career, community involvement, and having lived in various areas of the county (Park City, Oakley, Kamas & Coalville), I have had the opportunity to connect with residents in all regions.   I understand the unique and diverse lifestyle of both the east and west sides of Summit County.   Because of the diversity of our county, I believe it is imperative that there is a balanced County Council representing all citizens, lifestyles, and the different areas of the county.

My professional career has been predominantly in sales and marketing specific to the hospitality and resort industry. I have had the opportunity to be the Director of Resort Sales for Powdr Corp., American Skiing Company, Talisker, Vail Resorts and most recently at Snowbasin and Sun Valley Resorts as Executive Director of Resort Sales.  In 2022 I retired from my career in hospitality, allowing me the necessary time to focus on the County Council. Throughout my career I have been a proven leader with solid business relationships built upon demonstrated integrity and perseverance.

Family and interests

My family is the highlight of my life.  I have been married to my husband Harold “Howdy” Hanson for 38 adventurous years. He retired from the Park City School District as the Network Administrator in 2016.  Prior to employment at the PCSD, Howdy was a Construction Manager building “clean rooms” in locations throughout the United States and internationally.  International locations included Israel, Scotland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, and China. I took the opportunity to travel with him as much as possible, taking a hiatus from my career to live in both Taiwan and China.

In 1995 we were thrilled to welcome our daughter Alyssa Tia into our lives.  Tia graduated from South Summit High School and Utah Valley University.  Recently she graduated from Willamette School of Law in Salem, Oregon.  She is currently preparing for the bar exam.

My interests include skiing, traveling, gardening, camping, cooking, boating, all things outdoors and spending time with family and friends.
